The U.S. Department of Commerce, through its Global Buyers Initiative, is facilitating business match-making between U.S. companies and prospective importers in the country.

The Initiative would “help you [Indian companies] try to identify a U.S. supplier company,” said Matt Kennedy, Director, Office of Strategic Partnerships, U.S. Commercial Service. He was addressing a round-table discussion on the Initiative, organised by the Consultative Committee of City Chambers of Commerce in association with the U.S. Consulate here on Tuesday.

Hoping that the programme would help bring together U.S. and Indian companies, he said the Initiative would also be beneficial for firms looking for imports to move up the value chain. “It will be a two-way trade,” he said about the Initiative, for which FedEx is a partner.

Jennifer McIntyre, U.S. Consul-General in Chennai, told the gathering of members of various chambers that the Global Buyers Initiative had been designed to help companies source what they needed from the U.S. Chozha Naachiar Rajasekar, Chairman of the Consultative Committee, said the U.S.-India bilateral trade was on track to touch $100 billion this year.
