Weird-looking Sculptures Made From Branches and Twigs

Astonoshing is the right word for this art work that can be found in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Sculptor Philip Haas has made a five meter high fiberglass sculptor that he has called “Winter”. The art object is in honor to celebrate an exhibition of Renaissance artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo.

The sculpture looks like a giant face, like a portrait, and it is made of bark, twigs, branches, fungi, moss, etc. It is an imitation of Arcimboldo’s 1563 painting “Winter”. It has a really expressive face that gives the whole sculpture a lot of life. This art work is considered as one of the best of year 2010.

Haas has made several featured films that were nominated for the Oscar; “Angels and Insects” is one of them. Other funny looking face sculptures are these ones that are 250 years old, but look so modern.
