Samsung Electronics has reportedly benefited from Apple reducing its iPad 2 display orders to LG as some of the previous batches of iPad 2 displays LG has delivered have suffered quality problems.

The news comes via DigiTimes which says industry sources have told them that orders for 9.7-inch iPad 2 displays have been diverted from LG to Samsung and Chimei Innolux.

According to the industry-monitoring publication, LG’s iPad 2 displays order was a million units short that the firm’s original goal for July.

DigiTimes’ sources have told the publication that the lesser order from Apple will be felt by LG particularly via a lower fiscal third quarter revenue.

The decrease in iPad 2 displays ordered from LG comes after LG-made iPad 2 displays apparently failed drop tests by Apple.

The publication says that LG, after switching to its new “6G LCD plant”, targeted four million units a month but sources say that production is only at 2.5 to 2.6 million units.

On the other hand, Samsung is said to be producing two million iPad 2 displays per month surpassing its one million production goal.
