    Veteran actor Shammi Kapoor, who ruled the late 1950s and 1960s with his unique style and versatile range, passed away on Sunday at the Breach Candy Hospital here, family sources said.

    He was 79. He is survived by his wife Neela Devi, son Aditya Raj and daughter Kanchan Desai.

    According to the sources, he was on dialysis for the last few years and was undergoing the procedure at least thrice a week. He was on Saturday admitted to the ICU of the hospital.

    The actor, who made his debut in Bollywood in 1953, when the film ‘Jeevan Jyoti’ was released, carved out a niche for himself with the super hit “Junglee” in 1961.

    His new image took ground and his subsequent films were all in this genre later.

    Bollywood actor Shammi Kapoor, passed away on August 14, at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. The veteran actor was 79 years old.

    The flamboyant Shammi Kapoor was the box office favorite in the 50-60s. Blessed with naturally dashing looks, his style, dance movements, were unmatchable, even till date. Shammi ji was seen in over hundred movies which included, Junglee, Kashmir Ki Kali, An Evening In Paris, Bramachari, Teesri Manzil, Ujjala, Chinatown and Andaz. He was due to shoot a sequence with grand-nephew Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar.

    The veteran actor was suffering from chronic renal failure. From the past two days, the actor was in the ICU, kept on ventilator support.

    His body was cremated at 11 a.m. in Mumbai on 15th August.
