    Film Cast Plusses Minusses Verdict

    1920 - Evil Returns
Aftab Shivdasani, Tia Bajpai, Vidya Malvade, Sharad Kelkar. Eerie moments. Gripping climax. Tia Bajpai's competent performance. Screenplay could've been tighter. Too many songs. Has recorded an exceptional total in its opening weekend. The business was robust on Friday, dipped marginally on Saturday, but went upwards on Sunday. Its performance in the mass circuits was simply fantastic, while the multiplexes of urban centres also performed well. Collected approx Rs 12.27 cr nett in its opening weekend. Fri 4.05 cr, Sat 3.88 cr, Sun *est* 4.34 cr.

    Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana
Kunal Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Rajesh Sharma, Dolly Ahluwalia, Rajendra Sethi, Vinod Nagpal, Mukesh Chhabra, Rahul Bagga, Anangsha Biswas, Seema Kaushal, Munish Makhija, Vipin Sharma. Wonderful slice of life moments. Erratic pacing. Gets slow paced at times. Showed ample growth in North circuits, which contributed to 50% of the overall weekend business [generally, North circuits contribute 30%]. However, the business was below par elsewhere, despite strong word of mouth. Collected approx Rs 5.75 cr nett in its opening weekend. Fri 1.25 cr, Sat 2 cr, Sun 2.5 cr.

    Student Of The Year
Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Rishi Kapoor, Ram Kapoor, Kayoze Irani, Manasi Rachh, Sahil Anand, Ronit Roy, Sana Saaed, Manjot Singh, Gautami Kapoor, Maninee De Mishra, Farida Jalal, Prachi Shah, Sushma Seth, Akshay Anand, Boman Irani [sp. app.]. Karan Johar reinvents himself with this film. The three newcomers + music + glam and gloss + rocking second half. First half could've been tighter. Remained rock-steady, despite SKYFALL and 1920 - EVIL RETURNS dominating the marketplace. Collected approx Rs 2.5 cr nett in its Weekend 3, taking the total to approx Rs 66 cr nett. Hit.

Arjun Rampal, Abhay Deol, Manoj Bajpayee, Anjali Patil, Esha Gupta, Om Puri, Murli Sharma, Kabir Bedi, Chetan Pandit, S.M. Zaheer, Kiran Karmarkar. Tackles a burning issue with understanding. Plus, competent performances by lead actors. Stretched by at least 15 minutes. Dipped substantially in Weekend 2. The theatrical business is below average.

(Ratings are based on the box office collections and the cost of the film)
