    Default After IPL, BPL is the next big thing

    After two months of cold spell on the Bollywood box-office thanks to the IPL season, things are finally going to change coming Friday. With IPL coming to an end, films will again take prominence and box office will again see audiences lining up. You no more have to do with small or shoddy films or B-graders. Get ready for some real big films in the coming months on which more than Rs 300 crore is riding. So after IPL, it’s BPL (Bollywood Premiere League).

    Housefull is the first in the row and Sajid Khan seems pretty confident that the theatre capacity will be in sync with the title of his film. A comedy catering to the masses, Sajid pays a tribute to the masala filmmakers of 80s in Housefull. Hot babes in bikini Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta and Jiah Khan are already attracting eyeballs. And the comic timing of Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh can never go wrong.

    In this Indian version of the Irani classic film ‘Children of Heaven’, Priyadarshan attempts something different than his usual slapstick brand of comedy. This warm film starring Darsheel Safary (of Taare Zameen Par fame) promises to be a decent family entertainer.

    Not much is known about the story of this romance drama other than the fact that Hrithik plays a Salsa dancer who falls in love with Spanish beauty Barbara Mori. The chemistry between Barbara and Hrithik is something not seen before in any Hindi film and is sure to set the screen on fire.

    Cast: Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgan, Ranbir Kapoor, Manoj Bajpai, Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif

    Prakash Jha ventures into his favourite territory – political drama with Raajneeti which is a modern day interpretation of the Indian epic Mahabharata. Katrina Kaif’s character has shades of Sonia Gandhi and the star-studded cast promises potential drama.

    If Prakash Jha is doing a modern day interpretation of Mahabharat, Mani Ratnam designs contemporary Ramayana in Raavan. The film has a very interesting. While it stars real life husband-wife Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ratnam pairs Aishwarya with south star Vikram who plays Ram. Abhishek plays the antagonist Raavan. Govinda is Hanuman, Nikhil Dwivedi is Laxman, Ravi Kishan is Vibhishan (Raavan’s brother), Priyamani is Surpankha (Raavan’s sister) and there were also reports of Bipasha Basu playing Mandodari (Raavan’s wife).

    Release Date: July 16, 2010

    Rahul Dholakia who directed the sensitive film on Gujarat riots – Parzania, returns with Lamhaa that is based in the Kashmir valley. Delayed since some time, the film finally releases on July 16. Sanjay Dutt plays an army-man in this film.

    Action Replayy
    Director: Vipul Shah
    Cast: Aishwarya Rai, Akshay Kumar, Neha Dhupia
    Release Date: July 2010

    Vipul Shah plays a tribute to the golden era of Bollywood from 70s to 80s in Action Replayy where Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai will be seen recreating everything retro from Disco to Holi songs. The film also has a very interesting theme of reverse aging, like in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button .
