Many veterans in the film industry have been attending Filmfare Awards night for years together and it is interesting to hear the interesting experiences some have had at the event.

One such anecdote was narrated by producer Mukesh Bhatt that happened during 27th Filmfare Awards, in 1980. He reminisced how Helen, who had won the Best Supporting Actress award for the film Lahu Ke Do Rang had requested to receive the award at the hands of director Mahesh Bhatt since he was one of the few directors who had faith in Helen's acting capability and didn't consider her to be just a dancer. "Helen wanted Mahesh Bhatt to give away the award to her," said Bhatt.

Lahu Ke Do Rang is a 1979 film directed by Mahesh Bhatt. It starred Vinod Khanna, Shabana Azmi, Helen, Danny amongst others. "While everyone considered her to be only a dancer, she felt it was Mahesh Bhatt who gave her the role of a lifetime in the film where she had great scope for performance so much so that she was nominated and had won the award, too," said Bhatt.

The film bagged two awards and Helen received her first Filmfare Award after three nominations in Best Supporting Actress category earlier. "That was a very touching moment for us and I will always cherish it," said Mukesh while walking the red carpet at 58th Filmfare Awards held recently.
